Mulled wine is a huge hit when it’s really cold out. It’s particularly welcome after coming in from skiing or shovelling snow and it makes  a nice option when having a winter party.

 3 cups dry, red wine
 2 Tbsp sugar
 1 cinnamon sticks
 3 whole cloves
 3 cardamom pods
 1 star anise
 1 small orange, thinly sliced
 1 small lemon, thinly sliced

In a large saucepan, combine all ingredients. Bring to a very gentle simmer.

Reduce heat to low. Ladle into punch glasses or small mugs.
